One person was killed in a violent crash that involved a police cruiser, according to Davie police.
A car trying to elude a police traffic stop slammed into a second police vehicle about 4:40 p.m. on the 4800 block of Davie Road.
The driver of the car, a blue Toyota Corolla, died in the crash, said Davie police Sgt. Jeremy Stone.
Two passengers, sitting in the back seat, and the police officer in the second vehicle were taken to Memorial Regional Hospital. The passengers, a male and female, are in critical condition; the police officer’s injuries are not life-threatening. Their names have not been released.
With Davie Road closed between Stirling and Griffin roads, rush hour traffic is a nightmare. People who live on Davie are being stopped by police from getting to their homes.
Car parts and shattered glass are strewn across Davie Road. The patrol car was turned 180 degrees after being T-boned. The Corolla was perpendicular in the roadway.
A Broward Sheriff’s Department helicopter is taking aerial shots to be used in the investigation.
Mike Green, a youth pastor at Davie United Methodist Church, was in his office when he heard “a horrendous crash.”
Green ran out and saw the Corolla smoking and the police car’s lights flashing and siren blaring. The police officer was on the ground, Green said.
He ran back inside to get a fire extinguisher, but by the time he came back outside, Fire-Rescue was there.
