A man was critically injured Sunday afternoon when a boat he was fueling at a Dania Beach marina burst into flames.

The man, who suffered severe burns, was first taken to a local hospital, but later airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s burn unit.

His son also suffered minor burns. He was taken to Joe DiMaggio Children’s hospital.

Police said the incident occurred at about 1:30 p.m. as the man was fueling a 19-foot cabin cruiser at the Harbour Towne Marina at 801 NE Third St., according to the Broward Sheriff’s office.

For some reason, the boat burst into flames. It’s unclear if there was an explosion. The fire, contained to the boat, was quickly put out by witnesses.

The names of the victims have not been released.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The extent of damage to the boat is unknown.
