Two Broward County men were hospitalized Monday as a result of separate July 4 fireworks mishaps.
A man in Coral Springs suffered serious injuries to his face after being struck by a firework Monday, according to the Coral Springs Fire Department.
A man in Pembroke Pines suffered serious flesh injuries to his right hand, the Pembroke Pines Fire Department reported.
The Coral Springs man, who has not been identified but is believed to be in his 20s, was flown to North Broward Medical Center, Capt. Mike Moser said. The incident happened about 9:15 p.m. at the 10100 block of Northwest Third Street.
In Pembroke Pines, a 27-year-old had injuries to his pinky finger and thumb after a firework he was attempted to light discharged in his hand. The incident happened about 9:15 p.m. at the 15900 block of SW 15th Street in the Winston Pines development.
The man was treated at Memorial Regional Hospital for percussion-related injuries consistent with a firework getting very close to the skin, officials said.
A firework was also the cause of a separate Coral Springs incident that happened on the July 4 holiday.
A lit firecracker shot into the garage of a house on the 9100 block of NW 41st Street, causing a fire. There was significant damage to the garage but no injuries in that incident, Moser said.
