After gas prices continued their downward trend in December, South Florida consumers can soon look forward to another energy-related perk: a lower utility bill.
A typical residential bill with 1,000-kWh of usage will go down approximately $2 per month beginning Jan. 1, 2015, Florida Power & Light announced on Tuesday.
Business owners will see their bills decrease by roughly 1 percent depending on the rate class and type of service, according to FPL.
By law, FPL is required to pass on the fuel savings when prices drop.
The utility company boasts that its typical customer bill is approximately 25 percent lower than the national average and the lowest of all reporting utilities in Florida.
