Smoke closes 25-mile stretch of I-95

Interstate 95 opened early Monday after msoke from brush fires in Brevard County forced the Florida Highway Patrol to close a 25-mile stretch of the highway on Sunday, officials said.

I-95 was closed in both directions in Brevard and Indian River counties, south of Palm Bay to north of Vero Beach.

U.S. 1 also was closed in both directions from the Indian River County line to just south of Melbourne, officials said.

The fires, which burned just south of Palm Bay, started around 3:15 p.m. Sunday.
