Forge owner lists residence, renovates restaurant

joanfleischman@yahoo.com

Shareef Malnik, who last month announced a shutdown of his venerable restaurant The Forge -- perfect time for a major renovation, he explains -- is trying to sell his South Beach residence. He's asking $10.9 million.

The four-bedroom house, at 222 Ocean Dr., has a rooftop pool, fancy four-oven kitchen -- and a three-car garage with AC and a granite floor on which he parks his black '08 Ferrari.

He bought the property in '95 for a cool $1 million.

Malnik, 51, wants to move into a condo-hotel.

''Turnkey, concierge, beach club, services,'' he says, adding that he looked at The Setai on Collins Avenue.

He says he travels frequently -- he is set to open a Forge in Dubai, and is exploring Las Vegas and New York.

``I'm in an expansion mode. I'm itching to go other places now. I think living in a place where everything is taken care of for me -- where I can just leave, lock the door and not have to worry about it -- is going to be more conducive to my lifestyle.''

Malnik plans to plunk $3 million to $5 million into a redo of the 40-year-old Miami Beach restaurant and reopen between October and December.

``It's very important for me to be open for the season, for such great revenue-producing events as New Year's Eve and Super Bowl. Super Bowl week is worth an additional half a million to me.''

Coldwell Banker's Jill Eber and Jill Hertzberg have the listing, with lots of photos at thejills.com.

(P.S. The Australian finches that lived in an aviary in The Forge's ladies' room have a new home -- with Boris Ibacache, 41, a longtime Forge waiter and bird lover, Malnik says.)

JUDGMENT DAY

Sony Pictures Television has declined to renew Judge David Young, hosted by David Young of Miami, and Judge Karen, hosted by Karen Mills-Francis of North Miami. Young, 50, and Mills-Francis, 48, are former Miami-Dade judges. Their shows, taped last summer, will air through August.

Sony Pictures TV ''made a business decision, in light of the economy, that it was in their best interest to do away with all court shows,'' Young says. (Last year, Sony decided not to renew Judge Hatchett, although it is airing The Best of Judge Hatchett reruns through September 2010.)

Young landed a six-week gig on Sirius satellite radio's gay-oriented OutQ channel. The Judge David Young Show:Justice with a Snap! deals with ''a wide range of topics affecting the LGBT community, including adoption, civil unions, same-sex marriage and job discrimination,'' Sirius' website says. Young also gives a ''colorful take on the news of the day'' and does ``interviews with celebrity and newsmaker guests.''

That engagement ends June 6. ''Hopefully, they'll like the show and pick it up for a permanent spot,'' Young says.

He'd love another TV show -- ''legal or entertainment,'' he adds.

No word on Mills-Francis' plans, but she says the TV experience ``opened up a whole new world of opportunities which I am now pursuing.''

COURT TV

The People's Court, hosted by TV judge Marilyn Milian, is a Daytime Emmy nominee in the Outstanding Legal/Courtroom program category. The other nominees: Cristina's Court ( Cristina Perez); Family Court with Judge Penny ( Penny Brown Reynolds); Judge Hatchett ( Glenda Hatchett); and Judge Judy ( Judith Sheindlin). Ceremony: Aug. 30.

Milian, 48, a former Miami-Dade circuit judge, lives in Coral Gables. Her show was nominated last year, too. The winner was . . . Cristina's Court.

HOT STOVE

Joey's in Wynwood gets a plug in Food & Wine's June issue, in an article on ''New Pizza Artisans.'' The restaurant, cited in the ''exceptional pizza, plus pasta & more'' category, is owned by Joey Goldman (Goldman Properties) and wife Thea, both 36.
