Quantum of the Seas, the new Royal Caribbean International ship that starts sailing in November, will be home to an oversized permanent passenger.

A 30-foot magenta polar bear perched on an outside deck made its debut this week when the 4,180-passenger ship was floated out of the building area at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany.

The eight-ton stainless steel sculpture from Denver artist Lawrence Argent is part of the 2,980-piece art collection aboard the ship, which will sail from Bayonne, N.J. for six months. The vessel will start sailing from its home port of Shanghai in June.
