Art aficionados, take note: The kickoff events for Art Basel Miami Beach will unfold in a new way this year.

The first day of the annual event, Dec. 3, will be reserved only for VIP guests: “First Choice VIP” at 11 a.m. and “Preview VIP” at 3 p.m. Instead of hosting the Vernissage preview the first evening as in previous years, that pre-opening showing is scheduled for the early part of Dec. 4, a Thursday.

Public show hours will start at 3 p.m. on Dec. 4.

In a statement, the art fair said the change will give exhibitors “an even better platform for promoting their gallery’s program.”

“Based on our experience over the past three years in Basel, we are confident that this opening structure will allow us to provide our galleries with the best opportunity to spend quality time with both existing and potential patrons,” Art Basel director Marc Spiegler said in a statement.

The show will be open to the public at the Miami Beach Convention Center from Dec. 4-7.
