Royal Caribbean International announced Friday it has established an office in Hong Kong, where the company will base a ship for the entire cruise season next year.
Voyager of the Seas, which has sailed mostly from Shanghai and Beijing in previous China deployments, will home port in Hong Kong for 22 sailings next summer.
The Miami-based cruise company already has offices in Beijing and Shanghai.
Parent company Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. also confirmed that it recently entered into a non-binding memorandum of understanding with Taiwan International Ports Company to jointly develop the Penghu Island cruise port. The site is now a facility for the Taiwanese Navy Coast Guard.
Royal Caribbean has been growing its presence in Asia in recent years, announcing in April that it will base its newest ship in Shanghai after an introductory season in the New York area. Quantum of the Seas, which launches in November, will start sailing from China in late June of 2015.
