Caribbean Radiation Oncology Center will break ground on Thursday on a Doral facility. The 9,000-square-foot center at 3125 NW 84th Ave. is expected to open in the second quarter of 2015.

Caribbean Radiation Oncology Center will add an estimated 22 jobs and $8.35 million in capital investment within three years to Miami-Dade County. The company, a provider of advanced radiation technologies, was founded in 2007 and has a center in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

The new facility will feature the TomoTherapy Hi-Art Treatment System to treat hard-to-reach complex tumors while decreasing secondary side effects caused by standard radiation treatments, said Dr. Pedro A. Serrano-Ojeda, president and radiation oncologist of Caribbean Radiation Oncology Center.

The Beacon Council assisted the company with permitting, licenses, research and business contacts.
