Broward Sheriff Al Lamberti's campaign account continues to grow but may not hit the $1 million mark predicted by some political observers.

Lamberti, a Republican, raised about $650,000 as of late September and has a little more than half of it left, according to his finance report submitted to the Broward supervisor of elections on Oct. 1.

Lamberti's most recent report shows he continues to gain support from Democratic city officials and Republican leaders. Davie City Councilman Bryan Caletka, who recently lost a Democratic County Commission primary, gave $100. The Tew Cardenas law firm gave $500 -- Al Cardenas is a former Florida Republican Party chairman.

Democrat Scott Israel, a former North Bay Village police chief, raised a hair under $400,000 and has about $100,000 left.

Lamberti has a fundraising advantage in large part because he didn't face a primary while Israel drained his account in a five-way primary.
