Gas pump bursts into flames in Fort Lauderdale, injuring 7
A pickup truck crashed into a gasoline pump Sunday evening in Fort Lauderdale and started a fire that injured seven people, leaving one in critical condition, authorities said.
The crash happened at about 5:45 p.m. at Southwest 27th Avenue and Davie Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale police spokeswoman Detective Kathy Collins said.
Investigators believe the truck crashed into another vehicle, then careened into a pump at the BP station on the corner, Collins said. The pump erupted in flames.
The truck's driver escaped with minor injuries. Another person was in critical condition and taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's burn center, Collins said. Four others were treated for minor injuries.
