Sprinkler floods Weston classrooms

Several classrooms and hallways flooded at Cypress Bay High School in Weston on Sunday after heat from an oven set off a sprinkler.

Just after 2:30 p.m., firefighters rushed to the school at 18600 Vista Park Blvd., according to Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue. They found the sprinkler flooding several classrooms and hallways.

About three classrooms were affected, said Keith Bromery, spokesman for Broward County public schools. Maintenance workers spent Sunday repairing the damage, he said.

The sprinklers appeared to be triggered by the heat from an oven used for ceramics inside an art room, Bromery said. The district will investigate why the oven was on at the time, Bromery said.
