FEDERAL COURT

2 indicted, linked to suspended Broward commissioner

Sun Sentinel

A federal grand jury on Tuesday indicted two men on charges they were involved in a $900,000 money-laundering scheme with suspended Broward County Commissioner Josephus Eggelletion.

Both businessman Joel ``Jodi'' Williams, 54, of North Miami, and attorney Sidney Cambridge, 45, of Nassau, Bahamas, were indicted on five counts of money laundering and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering. If convicted, they face a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $500,000 fine.

Eggelletion, Williams and another co-defendant, Ronald Owens, 62, of Hallandale Beach, are scheduled to appear Wednesday morning in Fort Lauderdale federal court. It was unclear Tuesday night where Cambridge was, but the other three were arrested and released on bond in September.

The four are accused of laundering money they thought came from criminal activity in exchange for a percentage of the amount. The money was laundered through the Bahamas and St. Croix, according to the indictment.
