  • 11/07/09 -- Fort Lauderdale -- Broward Center for the Book at Broward County Library is hosting The Big Read through Dec. 13 featuring Mark Twain's literary classic The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Sixty-five events at locations countywide are set to bring adventures in reading to more than 6,000 children, teens and adults. Here, banjo player Pat Hacket, of Boca Raton, plays a 1903 ditty, Ida Sweet as Apple Cider, with the Gold Coast Jazz Society's Dixieland Band on opening day at Broward Main Library.

  • 11/07/09 -- Pembroke Park -- Stephanie Ruiz, of Pembroke Pines, and Linda Socci, of Coral Springs, handle tons of donated canned goods during a sorting blitz by 200 volunteers from JM Family Enterprises at Feeding South Florida's Pembrpoke Park warehouse. The food distribution program, formerly Daily Bread Food Bank, recently lost 93,000 pounds of food during a fire at their former location.

Liz works full days responding to commands that assist patients in getting healthy, strong and back to performing daily functions such as walking to the mailbox or going grocery shopping before being released from the hospital.
