Broward events salute nation's veterans
Here are some events taking place this week:
Dignity Memorial Vietnam Wall: The Dignity Memorial Vietnam Wall is open for public viewing Sunday at Bailey Memorial Gardens, 7801 Bailey Rd., North Lauderdale. Closing ceremonies for the exhibit with local dignitaries, veterans, a concert, a 21-gun salute, taps and retiring the colors, beginning at 3 p.m.; dignitymemorial.com.
Coral Springs-Veterans Park: Flag-raising ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday; Veterans Park, 8601 Royal Palm Blvd., Coral Springs; free; 954-345-2200 or www.coralsprings.org.
D-Day Remembered for Veterans Day: G.I. Jive: World War II Across Three Theatres from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at Walter C. Young-Jim Davidson Theatre, 901 NW 129th Ave., Pembroke Pines. 954-986-5049.
Davie: Broward College will host a Veterans Open House and Tribute; 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday; A. Hugh Adams Central Campus, 3501 SW Davie Rd., Building 10; www.broward.edu/sfs.
Plantation: Veterans will be honored from 9:30 a.m.-noon Wednesday; Veterans Park, 1776 Lauderdale West Dr., Plantation; 954-452-2510 or www.plantation.org.
Sunrise: A 21-gun salute, flag presentation and speeches; 11 a.m. Wednesday; Welleby Park, 11100 NW 44th St. The public is invited to bring donations like personal hygiene items and magazines to be sent to troops; 954-746-3670.
Tamarac: Ceremony and veterans assembly from 10 a.m.-noon Wednesday at Veterans' Park, 7825 Southgate Blvd., Tamarac; www.tamarac.org.
Dania Beach: The Dania Lions Club will host ``Salute Our Veterans'' Tuesday at the Lions Clubhouse, 501 SW Fourth Ave. with an Italian pasta night. Donations of $8, $4 for kids younger than 12 will buy phone cards for troops overseas; 5-8 p.m.; 954-922-2969 or 954-920-4592.
Hallandale Beach: Placement of flags; 9 a.m. Wednesday; Hallandale Beach Cemetery, 801 NW Sixth Ave., with events at the Cultural Community Center, 410 SE Third St.; 954-457-1452.
Coconut Creek Veterans Day Ceremony: A tribute from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Wednesday; Veterans Park, Lyons and Sample roads; 954-956-1580.
