Deerfield Beach man killed during Massachusetts visit

Associated Press

Authorities have charged a Massachusetts man who took to the hospital the corpse of a Deerfield Beach visitor who had been beaten to death.

Nelson Melo of Taunton, Mass., was ordered held on $50,000 bail after pleading not guilty Wednesday to witness intimidation, a law that includes providing police with false information.

Police say Melo brought the body of Chad Fleming, 31, of Deerfield Beach to the hospital about 11 p.m. Tuesday. Doctors determined that Fleming had been dead for several hours.

Police said Melo told them different accounts of what happened.

No one has been charged with Fleming's death. The investigation continued Thursday.
