A tractor trailer overturned Thursday, spilling its load of Gatorade and fruit juice all over the U.S. 27 in Broward.

A big rig overturned on southbound U.S 27 Thursday morning, spilling Gatorade and orange juice all over the highway.

The southbound lanes of the road were closed during the morning; vehicles headed that direction were rerouted to the northbound lanes, with two-way traffic on those lanes.

The driver, John Downey of Kissimmee, was not hurt in the accident.

The truck was headed south when it drifted off the road and onto the west shoulder. As Downey, 51, tried to correct course, he swerved too far, causing the tractor trailer to overturn.

The accident site is at mile marker 42, eight miles north of where the highway intersects with Interstate 75.

U.S. 27 is a popular road for truckers who are heading north or south through Florida and want to avoid the tolls of Florida's Turnpike or the traffic on Interstate 95.
