cveiga@MiamiHerald.com

Three Coral Springs teens died and one escaped with minor injuries after the car they were riding in plunged into a canal Sunday just past midnight, according to Coral Springs Police.

Driver Sean Maxey and passengers Robert Nugent and Anthony Almonte, all 16 and of Coral Springs, died. Evan Sinisgalli, 15 of Coral Springs, was able to swim to shore and is in stable condition at Coral Springs Medical Center, according to police.

Sean hit another vehicle while attempting to make a turn onto University Drive from Brokenwoods Drive in Coral Springs. He then drove in reverse, hitting a street sign and a guard rail before driving into the canal.

The driver of the other vehicle, Kiran Parekh, 59, of Miami, was uninjured.

It is not known where the boys were headed, said spokesman Sgt. Joe McHugh.

Anyone with information is asked to call Officer Eric Schuster of the Coral Springs Police Department Traffic Unit at 954-346-1247.
