Time magazine has come out with its list of 10 Best College Presidents -- and Miami Dade College's longtime leader Eduardo Padrón is No. 7.
Padrón is the only Florida college president to make the list, headed by E. Gordon Gee of Ohio State University.
The magazine, which goes on sale Friday, praised Padrón, saying MDC graduates more minorities than any other college in the country.
``The Cuban-born economist has helped revolutionize the role of two-year community colleges in the U.S., raising their academic stature while preserving their mission to teach underserved populations,'' the article says.
``It's about combining open access and excellence,'' Padrón said, adding that community colleges are ``no longer third-choice institutions.'' Other presidents appearing on the list:
John Sexton, New York University.
Mary Sue Coleman, University of Michigan.
Michael Crow, Arizona State University.
Scott Cowen, Tulane University.
Ronald Liebowitz, Middlebury College.
Freeman Hrabowski, University of Maryland Baltimore County.
Juliet Garcia, University of Texas at Brownsville.
Mark Yudof, the University of California, Oakland.
