A memorial service was held at Florida State University on Monday for an 18-year-old from Cooper City who died in a traffic accident over the weekend.
Christopher Byrd was speeding in a 2008 Infinti about 12:30 a.m. Saturday when he crashed into a utility pole, a police spokesman told The Tallahassee Democrat newspaper. Byrd wrestled at Cooper City High School and was an engineering major at FSU.
The impact was so great that the car broke in half and flipped over. Byrd, who was not wearing a seat belt, died instantly.
A Facebook memorial page was created in his honor. It has more than 700 members.
A service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Christ the Rock Community Church, 11000 Stirling Rd.
