Stein Mart will open its first Miami area store on May 15, taking the space in Aventura that had been occupied by Loehmann’s, which has filed bankruptcy and liquidated.

Stein Mart’s new Aventura store, at 19915 Biscayne Blvd., is part of the nationwide retailer’s largest store expansion since 2007. The Jacksonville-based company said the store will create 40 new jobs.

“We’ve had our eye on the Miami area for quite some time. And when this location became available, our management team was prepared and acted quickly to get it,” Jay Stein, CEO of Stein Mart, said in a statement.

The discount retailer said it offers brand name fashion apparel for women and men, accessories, home décor, linens and shoes – at prices up to 60 percent off brand name and specialty merchandise.

The Aventura location is one of 10 new stores that the company is set to open nationwide this year, bringing its total store count to more than 270.
