A Hialeah police officer was seriously hurt Monday morning when his motorcycle crashed and burst into flames on a busy street, police said.

The officer, who was not identified, was riding on Palm Avenue and 43rd Street when the accident happened. He was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital with “serious but not life threatening” injuries, according to Hialeah Det. Eddie Rodriguez.

Officers don’t know what caused the crash, Rodriguez said, but police are interviewing people who saw it happen.

“We have witnesses and we have people who ran over to render aid,” Rodriguez said.
