Man shot in leg at Brazil president's residence

Associated Press

Brazilian authorities say a man who tried to invade the residence of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was shot in the leg after repeatedly ignoring warnings from security.

The president's press office says officers opened fire with non-lethal ammunition after the alleged intruder refused to obey orders to leave.

Silva and his wife, Marisa Leticia, were not in the residence at the time. Authorities are investigating the incident.

The man was hospitalized after Sunday's shooting, but the press office did not elaborate on his condition. Local media said he was undergoing surgery and his life was not in danger.
