Free mammograms, pap smears available
To mark October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Miami-Dade County Health Department Breast & Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program/Project SCREEN is reminding women that it offers mammograms and pap smears for free or at a reduced cost to those who meet specific qualifications. Women must be 50 and over with no health insurance, not covered by Medicare or Medicaid, meet income guidelines and live in Miami-Dade, Monroe or Collier County.
The program is available year-round and assists clients screened through the program with diagnostics and treatment, if needed, through the Mary Brogan Treatment Act, which provides Medicaid. To be eligible for the Mary Brogan Treatment Act the client must receive screening through the program.
To learn more about the program and to make an appointment, call 305-470-5634.
For optimal prevention, the American Cancer Society recommends that women 40 and over have an annual mammogram.
