TV debate could launch 'World War III'
Q. Perhaps you can settle a long running debate at our house. Is it better to leave the TV on or to keep flipping it on and off often during the day?
Please don't use my name... it might begin World War III!

A. We asked Florida Power & Light spokeswoman Mayco Villafaņa, who said you will save energy by turning your TV off.
"But keep in mind that today's TV sets are often designed to maintain memory features such as clocks and channel settings when the screen is off, which means that they continue to use some energy unless you unplug the TV,'' he said.
"An easy energy-saving guideline is to treat your TV like you would your ceiling fans or lamps: If you are leaving a room for an extended period of time, turn off the lights, ceiling fans and the television.''
