Loose dog allowed in moving car
Q. I would like to know if there are any rules or laws regarding driving around with a loose dog in your car. I see people driving around with dogs running around in the car while the individual looks very distracted trying to settle down the dog.

A. We contacted Miami-Dade Animal Services Department, and Investigator Luis Salgado said it is only against the law to transport an animal in an open-bed truck if the dog is not confined or restrained.
He offered these tips:
Restrict the dog to the back seat.
Make the dog comfortable and give him enough room to stretch out.
Prevent car sickness by allowing the dog to look out the front window. Open several windows a few inches.
Once the dog has positioned himself in his spot, tell him to stay. Repeat the command whenever he attempts to move.
You can buy pet safety harnesses, pet seats or dog seat belts. Smaller dogs can be placed in carrier bags; larger breeds in crates.
Keep your car cool when transporting your dog.
