Co-pay issue resolved

Q. As a breast cancer survivor I must take Aromasin for five years. Two years have gone by and my oncologist sends my prescription to Medco for 30 pills at a time. My supplemental insurer is United American, Medicare being the prime insurer.

My co-pay for 30 pills has been $64. When the oncologist renewed my prescription he made it for 90 pills. My co-pay for 90 pills is $64. When I called Medco, who supplies this medication, to ask about this discrepancy, I was told that they pay $64 per 90 pills. If you receive only 30 at a time the cost is still the same.

Do I have any recourse to a refund? Or at least a credit for some of this money? I cannot get an answer from either insurance company. I would appreciate your help in this matter. I wonder how many others have suffered this same inequity.

A. We forwarded your issue to Medicare. A few days later, you said that United American called you. United American told you that it will reimburse you for two of the co-pays, or $128.

From now on, you will be paying the $64 co-pay for 90 pills instead of paying $64 each time you receive only 30 pills.
