Miami Herald Travel Editor Jane Wooldridge took first place in two categories in the recent journalism competition held by the Society of American Travel Writers -- Atlantic Caribbean Chapter. First place in Articles about Foreign Destinations went to ''An Israel Unknown,'' published June 24, 2007. First place in Self-Illustrated Articles went to ''The Red Carpet,'' a package of stories and photos about China, published July 22, 2007.

COMING AND GOING
El Al, Israel's national airline, pulls out of Miami effective Sept. 1, replacing its three weekly nonstop flights with a code-share agreement with American Airlines. El Al passengers departing Miami can travel on American to New York (JFK/Newark) or via a few European cities and connect to an El Al flight to Israel.
Spirit Airlines said it will discontinue service between Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International and Providenciales, Turks & Caicos, and Islip, N.Y. Spirit also said it will offer only seasonal service from Fort Lauderdale to Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Previously announced service between Fort Lauderdale and Bogata, Colombia, remains on schedule to begin July 24, Spirit said.
United Airlines will pull out of Fort Lauderdale- Hollywood and Palm Beach International airports on Sept. 2. The airline operates four daily Ted flights out of Fort Lauderdale (two to Chicago, one to Denver and one to Washington Dulles) and one out of Palm Beach (Chicago).
Southwest Airlines said it will add service from Fort Lauderdale- Hollywood to five markets -- including three new destinations -- on Nov. 2. Southwest is launching new daily round-trips to Albany, N.Y.; Las Vegas; and Kansas City, and is adding an additional daily service to Chicago Midway and Providence, R.I.
