NEW YORK: FALLS SPECTACULAR
If you're visiting New York City this summer, don't be surprised to find a waterfall next to the Brooklyn Bridge. The spectacle will be one of four waterfalls built on the shores of the East River by Scandinavian artist Olafur Eliasson. The water will course over scaffoldings 90 to 120 feet high from June 26 to Oct. 13. Besides the bridge, locations will be Governor's Island, Pier 35 in Lower Manhattan and between Piers 4 and 5 in Brooklyn.
Details: There will be numerous public vantage points, including from the Brooklyn and Manhattan waterfront and from the pedestrian path of the Brooklyn Bridge. Circle Line Downtown (866-925-4631 or www.circlelinedowntown.com) is the official boat tour operator. Other cruises offering views of the falls are offered by South Street Seaport Museum (212-748- 8786 or www.southstreetseaportmuseum.org); New York Water Taxi (212-742-1969), and Circle Line Cruises (212-563-3200 or www.circleline42.com). CALIFORNIA: CHINESE INVASION!More than a dozen Chinese terra cotta warriors crafted more than 2,000 years ago to protect their emperor just went on display at the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana. The exhibit features 20 life-size figures, including a horseman, a foot soldier, a chariot driver, archers and a clay horse, along with dozens of items unearthed from the tomb site, including life-size bronze birds.
