LOS ANGELES: If you're looking for something really icky, you'll want to head to the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County's Spider Pavilion. Opening Sept. 21, the walk-through landscaped pavilion is home to hundreds of free roaming spiders. Now in its fourth season, the Spider Pavilion gives visitors the rare opportunity to immerse themselves in the spiders' habitat and witness their day-to-day lives.
Details: The Spider Pavilion will be open through Nov. 2. www.nhm.org or 213-763-DINO. Admission, $3 adults, $1 kids ages 5-12.
MISSOURI: ALL ABOARD
Wake up, trainspotters, and cast your eyes toward Kansas City. That's where the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art will open an exhibit titled Art in the Age of Steam: Europe, America and the Railroad, 1830-1960 on Sept. 13. The show, which features more than 100 paintings and photographs and will run through Jan. 18, includes works by Manet, Monet, Van Gogh, Thomas Hart Benton and Edward Hopper. Among the photographers: Alfred Steiglitz, Charles Sheeler and Andre Kertesz.
Details: 816-751-1ART or www.nelson-atkins.org. Admission: $8 adults, $5 ages 13-19.
FLORIDA: JAZZ UNDER THE STARS
A beautiful sunset and refreshing breezes will provide the atmosphere for Sept 13's grand finale of Summer Jazz on the Gulf, a free concert series held on Naples Beach Hotel and Golf Club's scenic Watkins Lawn overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. Performing will be the Stacey Knights Group.
Details: Free parking at Lowdermilk Park, just north of the hotel, with free trolley service to and from the resort. 239-261-2222 or www.naplesbeachhotel.com/resort/resort_events.html.
SPAIN: ISLAND DREAM
A hot, hip hotel, the Aguas de Ibiza, has just opened with Air Ibiza on top -- the rooftop bar -- and Scuba below, the downstairs bar. Rooms have private terraces and Mediterranean views, but the utmost luxury is reserved for the Cloud 9 Club on the fourth floor -- essentially, a hotel within the hotel, complete with its own check-in desk, design scheme, services and amenities.
Details: Rates start at about $400 per night including tax before Sept. 30, and from $360 after that for the low season; 800-337-4685 or www.aguasdeibiza.com.
