Sometimes the best stay-at-home vacation is club-hopping on South Beach or roller-blading on Hollywood's Broadwalk. Some local hostels are pitching themselves as the solution for club-hoppers and late-night diners who don't want to end an evening of partying by getting behind the wheel.

The Hollywood Beach Hotel + Hostel, which opened in early August, is Hollywood's first hostel, located a block off the beach and a few blocks south of Johnson Street. It has private rooms as well as dorm-type rooms, with a communal kitchen, lounge and living room.

The hostel is run by the South Beach Group, which also owns the Catalina Hotel, Metropole South Beach and Riviera South Beach, and is its first venture outside South Beach.

A bunk in a shared room starts at $19 a person; private rooms start at $59. Info: 334 Arizona Ave.; 954-391-9448; www.hollywoodbeachhostel.com.

Miami Beach has several hostels, including the South Beach Hostel, which was taken over in June by new owners, Stonemason Partners, and is newly renovated. The South Beach Hostel has 100 beds in a variety of rooms that accommodate two to eight people. Lodgings start at $15 per person, including breakfast. Info: 235 Washington Ave., Miami Beach; 305-534-6669; www.southbeachhostel.com.

CAMPING

Quiet Waters Park in Deerfield Beach is offering a different kind of lodging and activity -- a family campout.

The Saturday night ``Family Bed and Breakfast'' sleepovers run from 3 p.m. Saturday to 1 p.m. Sunday. All will include family fishing, a campfire with s'mores, and breakfast served by park staff. Some will include hayrides, others will have movies.

Each campsite has a 10-by-10-foot platform tent, fire ring, barbecue grill, picnic table, water and electricity, and access to showers and restrooms.

The first campout will be Sept. 12-13 and will include a hayride. Other dates with a hayride will be Oct. 24-25, Nov. 28-29, Jan. 9-10 and April 10-11. Sleepover weekends with movies will be Oct. 10-11, Nov. 14-15, Dec. 12-13, and March 20-21.

Cost is $70 per campsite for up to four campers, and $2 each for up to two additional campers. Pre-registration is required. Call 954-360-1315 or make reservations at the camp office, 401 S. Powerline Rd., Deerfield Beach.

LOCAL DEALS

September is Lauderdale Spa Chic month in Broward County, with a dozen spas offering certain treatments such as aromatherapy massage, facial, loofah scrub or reflexology for $99, a savings of up to 50 percent. Each spa has its own deal; details at www.sunny.org/spachic/.

Miami Spice month continues through Sept. 30, with restaurants offering three-course lunches for $22, dinners for $35. The Miami Spice menu typically offers only a few dishes at that price and not necessarily each restaurant's specialty, so check that you're looking at the Miami Spice menu before you place your order. Not all eateries take part in this promotion; a list of participating restaurants is at www.ilovemiamispice.com/participants.htm.
