Silver Airways, which announced less than a month ago that it would add service from the St. Petersburg/Clearwater airport to Fort Lauderdale and Key West in May, has cancelled those itineraries.
“Silver has decided not to start service at St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport,” said Michele Routh, the airport’s public relations director
The flights were scheduled to begin May 6. Over the weekend, the airline notified customers who had purchased flights on the new routes that their flights had been cancelled and that they should call to rebook their trip.
Booking for the two itineraries “were not meeting the necessary levels to be financially feasible,” said Misty Pinson, the airline’s spokeswoman. She said people who had bought tickets were being switched to flights from Tampa International Airport, 15 miles away.
