The 200-foot Krakatau volcano that will stand at the center of Universal’s new Orlando water park, Volcano Bay, will house an aqua coaster with canoes as the ride vehicles, which will be the park’s marquee attraction, Universal announced Thursday. SeaWorld’s Kraken roller coaster will go virtual next year, becoming Florida’s first virtual-reality coaster. In addition, the park’s theatrical orca shows will transition to educational encounters in 2018, SeaWorld Entertainment said Tuesday in announcing $175 million worth of new and upgraded attractions at many of its parks.

Reign of Kong has the most complex and enthralling story in this year’s crop of new attractions and is populated by terrifying creatures. The new King Kong ride hasn’t officially opened and an opening date hasn’t been announced, although park guests have been admitted intermittently for “technical rehearsals.”
