Norwegian Cruise Lines appeals restitution ruling
Norwegian Cruise Line has appealed a federal judge's ruling that it pay almost $7.4 million in restitution to some victims of a boiler explosion on the SS Norway in 2003.
U.S. District Judge Federico Moreno ordered the company to pay past and future wages to 12 crew members or their families after it pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of gross negligence. Eight crew members were killed and 10 others were seriously injured by the blast.
NCL opposed the victims' claims, saying the $13 million it paid earlier to settle civil claims should cover all claims. NCL filed its appeal with the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals.
