Viking Star, the first ship for Viking Cruises’ new oceangoing line, embarked on its inaugural journey on Saturday on a cruise out of Istanbul. After a series of cruises that will head north, the ship will be christened May 17 in Bergen, Norway.
Royal Caribbean on Friday took delivery of Anthem of the Seas from shipbuilder Meyer Werft. Anthem, the line’s 23rd ship, is to be inaugurated April 20 in Southampton, England, which will be its homeport until October. The 4,180-passenger ship will then sail for New York Harbor, which will be its year-round home.
Seven Seas Explorer will make its North American debut Dec. 2, 2016, when the 750-guest luxury liner sails into Miami. The Regent Seven Seas ship will embark on its maiden voyage — a Mediterranean cruise out of Monaco — on July 20, 2016, then spend the summer in the Med before crossing the Atlantic. From Miami, the ship will do two Caribbean cruises and a Panama Canal cruise.
CroisiEurope will inaugurate its third ship of the 2015 season, the MS Gil Eanes, on Portugal’s Douro River on Friday. Earlier this month, the river cruise company christened two other ships, both in France — the MS Camargue on the Rhône River and the MS Loire Princesse on the Loire River. The company has four new ships on order for 2016 and 2017.
