Universal Orlando is revamping CityWalk in 2014, adding eight restaurants to the 30-acre dining and entertainment complex that fronts the resort’s two theme parks, the company announced Thursday.
The restaurants are a mix of new and old brands and some Universal-only creations. The first, Red Oven Pizza Bakery, featuring Neapolitan-style pizza, has already opened. The others are scheduled to open at intervals throughout 2014.
The original concept restaurants are: Red Oven; Antojitos Authentic Mexican Food, tapas-style street fare; an as-yet unnamed modern Italian restaurant featuring fresh pasta made on the premises; and Bread Box sandwiches.
Others are the Hot Dog Hall of Fame, featuring dogs from ballparks; The CowFish, a North Carolina eatery serving "burgushi," a fusion of sushi and hamburgers; Cold Stone Creamery; and Menchies frozen yogurt.
Most of the restaurants will go in existing space, although some construction work is going on to modify what’s already there. In addition, Starbucks will move elsewhere on CityWalk and reopen at twice its current size.
The changes come as Universal prepares to open its fourth – and largest – on-site hotel, Cabana-Bay Beach Resort. The first phase of the new hotel, 600 family suites, is scheduled to open March 31. When finished – expected by the end of 2014 – the hotel will have 1,800 rooms. Cabana Bay is located on the Islands of Adventure side of the resort.
