Just in case you missed it the first time around, the San Diego History Center has opened Masterworks of the Exposition Era, commemorating the 1915 Panama California International Exposition in Balboa Park. Like the original Exposition, this exhibition features the work of a group of prominent American painters, including George Bellows, John Sloan, William Glackens, George Luks and Guy Pene du Bois. The assemblage of paintings, pairing the urban expressionism of East Coast artists with contemplative, impressionistic West Coast works, was displayed across three gallery venues in Balboa Park in 1915. Works on display this time are drawn from museums and private collections from across the country, and many have rarely been on public display over the past 100 years. The exhibit runs through Jan. 3.
