Florida State DT Jacobbi McDaniel may miss Saturday's game
TALLAHASSEE -- Freshman defensive tackle Jacobbi McDaniel, who has been the Seminoles' most effective interior lineman, was held out of practice Monday and might not make the trip for Saturday's game at Boston College.
McDaniel, who leads FSU's defensive line with nine tackles and three tackles for loss, was knocked out of the South Florida game with a right knee injury. And after watching film of the game, McDaniel was angered by what he considered a cheap shot by USF offensive guard Zach Hermann. On the play in question, South Florida quarterback B.J. Daniels had sprinted out of the pocket for a 7-yard gain and was already downfield when Hermann dove into the side of McDaniel's right knee.
Even if he makes the trip to Boston College, McDaniel said, he likely will only see limited duty.

Roofer
Even though he's drenched with sweat and covered by dirty, tar-stained long pants and a long-sleeve shirt, Demetrio Borja insists he loves his job as a roofer. Really.
Most days you will find the 35-year-old spreading a gooey, gelatinous concoction called liquid tar on a roof under the glaring South Florida sun, but he said the job has its rewards.
``It is just fun,'' said the Spanish-speaking Pompano Beach resident, with translation help from his boss. ``And I get satisfaction from making other people happy with my work.''

Dinner & a movie | We'll take the whole empanada
EAT: One of the cheapest, happiest take-home meals we've had in a long time came courtesy of HalfMoon Empanadas, a start-up fast food restaurant a block off Lincoln Road in South Beach.
Owned by a Mexican-Argentine couple, the place has the slickness of a chain. The savory pies come in sturdy, colorful cardboard boxes, and each is smartly stamped with the name of the primary ingredient so there's no confusion when you get home.
But the taste is anything but generic. We've sampled many Miami empanadas over the years and these are among the best, with just the right thickness to the golden crust and fillings that are generous and fresh.

Writer and teacher John Dufresne has found inspiration in his adopted home of Dania Beach
Mangroves flourish out back. Iguanas stalk the area. Monkeys sometimes stop by. Crocodiles, too.
So it's no surprise that John Dufresne, author of novels, short stories, screenplays and a guide to writing fiction, finds inspiration in his own backyard.
``It's a beautiful place to write about. It's interesting, it's unique,'' said Dufresne, who lives in Dania Beach. ``It's the only subtropical region in the country. You see things here you don't see other places.''
