JOSE A. ZALDIVAR / FOR THE MIAMI HERALD
Jay McCarroll
Jay McCarroll -- best known as the mouthy winner of the first season of Bravo's Project Runway -- was in Miami Beach on Saturday for the Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival. The fashion designer stars in the documentary Eleven Minutes -- the title refers to the average length of a runway show -- which chronicles the year leading up to his first solo New York Fashion Week show last September. Apparently having your own show isn't as easy as Heidi Klum & Co. make it look.
McCarroll, along with filmmakers Michael Selditch and Robert Tate, attended the film's screening and participated in a Q&A session at Regal South Beach Cinemas before moving to the rooftop of the Catalina Hotel & Beach Club on Collins Avenue for a pink-carpet runway show of the designs featured in the Bryant Park show.
As the documentary shows, McCarroll's line -- crafted around themes of architecture and transport -- is not available in stores now, but the designer will begin selling his work on QVC in July.
