BRAZILIAN FILM FESTIVAL OF MIAMI OPENING PARTY: North Beach Bandshell, 7250 Collins Ave., Miami Beach; www.brazilianfilmfestival.com; free.

Tonight's free party on the Bandshell marks the opening night of the 11th Brazilian Film Festival of Miami. At 6 p.m., enjoy a performance by The Brazilian Samba School and music by DJ Marcelo, followed by the outdoor film screening at sundown (approximately 8:30 p.m.) of Carla Camurati's Irma Vap -- The Return,an endearing story about a man trying to bring Brazil's most beloved theatrical production to the big screen who encounters unforeseen problems. Between Saturday and June 9, the Colony Theatre (1040 Lincoln Rd., Miami Beach) will showcase more than 30 features and shorts. Check website for schedule.

7 P.M. FRIDAY OPENING NIGHT: See Felipe Alarcón's Isla al Sur XIII and more works by the Cuban painter at his first exhibition in Miami at 7 tonight at Art Rouge Gallery, 3275 Ponce de Leon Blvd., Coral Gables; free and open to the public, but RSVP necessary at 305-448-2060. Runs through July 10.

Groove to the music of Maxi Priest, Jeffrey Osborne, Valerie Tyson, the Joey Gilmore Band and others performing in the city of Lauderhill's fourth annual celebration of blues and jazz or -- Blazzfest. Proceeds benefit Lauderhill's Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Taskforce scholarship fund. Gates open at 4 p.m.
