Sunset Islands estate goes for $9.5 million

A Mediterranean-style residence has sold for $9.5 million in the Sunset Islands area of Miami Beach at 1400 W. 28th St. Based on a building area of 9,933 square feet, the property cost $956 per square foot. The two-story home, built in 2003, has seven bedrooms and 7 ½ bathrooms. A three-story rotunda tower serves as the estate's entry.
The home includes a media, library and billiard room with a bar, along with a fireplace and elevator and built-in outdoor grill. The house features marble, hardwood and keystone flooring. The estate is situated on less than a half-acre lot and includes 100 feet of water frontage as well as a private dock and ocean access. There are fountains, waterfalls, ponds and an infinity pool on the property.
Taxes for 2008 were $162,942, which reflects a homestead exemption. The seller, Michael R. Kelly Trust, purchased the home in 2006 for $11.6 million from Conseco. It was first put on the market in July 2008 and was listed at $15.9 million when Rex Real Estate LLC purchased the property. The listing agents on the current sale were Jill Eber and Jill Hertzberg. The selling agent was Jamie Goff, president and CEO of Douglas Elliman Florida. The property was listed courtesy of Coldwell Banker.

HARBOR BEACH HOME
Myrtle Potter, former chief operating officer of biotechnology company Genentech, recently sold her Fort Lauderdale home. The house at 1235 E. Lake Dr. in Harbor Beach was sold for $9,450,000. With 15,283 square feet of living space, the house cost $618 per square foot. The Mediterranean-style home has eight bedrooms, seven full bathrooms and four half bathrooms. There is a wing dedicated to entertaining, a media room and a master suite that includes a gym, sitting room and spa. There is a gourmet kitchen and separate offices, along with a separate guest wing and guest house. The two-story home also features an elevator, bar and guest parking. The wraparound porch gives views of the bay, Intracoastal and the pool.
On 360 feet of water frontage, the property includes deeded beach access, a private dock and access to the canal, which is 121 feet at its narrowest point. The home was built in 2003 by the owner of a nightclub, and purchased for $12 million at the end of 2005. At the time, the property was briefly under contract to basketball star Shaquille O'Neal.
Property taxes for 2008 were $203,171 and reflect a homestead exemption. When Harborage Holdings purchased the property, it was listed at $10,995,000, but had been as high as $14.9 million at the end of 2007. The listing agent was Julie Jones, PA of Premier Estate Properties, and the selling agent was Timothy Elmes. GOLDEN BEACH HOUSE
BRINGS $6.5 MILLION
Sonny Kahn, president of Crescent Heights, a condominium development company with nationwide operations, and wife Suzanne Passi Kahn are new owners of a Golden Beach home. The 1956 home was sold for $6,580,000, or $1,375 per square foot. The two-story home has 4,785 square feet of living space and was updated to have a contemporary look.
The courtyard entrance includes a fountain-pond and leads into the spacious living room. The room has wall-to-wall windows facing the ocean. The house at 105 Ocean Blvd. has three bedrooms and 3 ½ bathrooms. The property also features separate guest quarters and 61 feet of oceanfront property, as well as deeded beach access.
