Chase ''walks around the block with a puppy we saved from Animal Rescue,'' her granddaughter Alexandra Howe tells us. ``That keeps her up and going. . . . I taught her how to salsa dance last year.''

100 candles: My birthday was May 29. I had a lovely party with relatives from all over the country. The invitations said ''no presents,'' but I managed to get a few. I had a load of cards and flowers, which I love.

Read all over: I start my day by reading the morning paper. I listen to certain programs on TV and I try to do a little work around my home. I have a beautiful life here, very enviable for an old gal.

Green thumbs: I used to be very agile in the garden, keeping up a yard full of flowers, trees, butterflies and birds. I just admire my daughter, Stephanie, who has taken over. I don't skip, jump around and climb any more. I walk with a cane.

Here, there, everywhere: I'm interested in the . . . (I have a memory that shuts down every once in a while) . . . National Geographic. I've had years of them, and there's plenty to read in the nature of orchids. Stephanie is an orchid lover. We have a patio full of orchids, and on one side orchids are hanging everywhere.

Bring it on: I eat everything. I don't eat what I don't like, but if I like something, which is almost everything, I eat it. I love veggies and fruits.

Up on the roof: When I could climb around I had a little house in South Miami with a garden and a small amount of grass. I built a porch on that house by hand. I even did all the wooden parts on the roof.

On the road: There are certain parts of my anatomy that would feel bruised by traveling, however, riding in a car is fine.
