The Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County has opened at Healthy Hub to provide free health screening to the public. The new Healthy Hub is located at the Frederica Wilson and Juanita Mann Health Center, 2520 NW 75th St. in Liberty City. The center will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays
The Healthy Hub will provide free screenings, including blood pressure readings, glucose and cholesterol monitoring, body mass index readings, heart assessments and lifestyle health assessments. A basic health screening can be done in about 30 minutes.
The public is invited to come to any Healthy Hub location without an appointment. The Healthy Hub can also give guests referrals to follow-up with another doctor and can provide information about free healthy living resources in the community. Guests can also ask professionals about ways to live healthier.
The purpose of opening the center is to reduce health disparities and reduce chronic diseases that can be prevented through healthy living. Heart disease, one of the five leading causes of death in America, can be reduced by healthy living.
These health centers are funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and their Partnerships to Improve Community Health. For more information or to see other Healthy Hub locations, visit healthymiamidade.org.
