Marino's on label of wines for charity

What's a good match for one of those 48-ounce steaks that football players are always eating in sports restaurants? Try a nice 2005 Marino Estates ''Vintage 13'' Cabernet Sauvignon.

Former Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino is lending his name to a $13 line of wines -- chardonnay, merlot and cabernet sauvignon -- that will debut Monday at Publix, local wine shops and his Dan Marino's Fine Food & Spirits restaurants in Miami, St. Petersburg, Orlando and Las Vegas. They plan a line of reserve wines at $25 and up later this year, with nationwide distribution by Southern Wine and Spirits.

For each bottle sold, $1.25 will go to the Dan Marino Foundation to help children with chronic disorders. Marino and his wife, Claire, established the foundation in 1992 to support medical research and treatment for children. Their son, Michael, has autism.

The new wine, made by Selby Winery in Sonoma, Calif., is part of a larger effort by Charity Wines, a philanthropic organization established by two Massachusetts businessmen who had medical tragedies in their own families. They have brought out charity wines with players from the New Orleans Saints, Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins.
