Lowdown: It's hard to spot Elemis Spa, tucked into a corner in Village of Merrick Park. But this 7,000-square-foot flagship spa is worth ferreting out.

A publicly traded British chain that began 37 years ago, Elemis is now in cruise ships and 65 top hotels worldwide. Company-wide protocols ensure spa services are consistent.

''If you have a Tri-Enzyme facial here, you can have it on a ship, you can have it in Asia -- it will be the same,'' said spa director Audrey Votano.

``The quality will always be consistent.''

While a destination day spa, Elemis also caters to locals, with pedicures, manicures, a hair salon and services like waxing, laser hair removal and permanent makeup. Elemis products, sold at the spa and used during treatments, are carried by Bergdorf Goodman and Nordstrom stores. The products are never tested on animals.

Neighborhood: Village of Merrick Park has adjacent parking garages. Elemis is next to Anthropologie, on the second floor.

Vibe: Grand, serene, professional. The 11 treatment rooms, with gem-inspired colors and Buddhist paraphernalia, are less antiseptic than those at many big spas. Votano puts fruit-infused water, brie and crackers in the lounge. There are lockers with security codes and softly lit hallways.

Highlights: Tri-Enzyme Resurfacing Facial involves three types of enzymes to turn the face aglow, along with gentle, intermittent massage, $180 for 75 minutes. A Hawaiian Wave Four Hand Massage is based on the traditional Lomi Lomi message method, with two therapists using sweeping, body-length strokes for a nurturing experience, $225 for 75 minutes.
