Deconstruction | Lance Benson
LANCE BENSON, a vice president at Grubb & Ellis Co., a commercial real estate advisory firm. Benson, a Miami resident, 34, was born and raised in Raleigh, N.C.
``People probably think I'm injured, that I hurt my foot. I prefer people to know what's factual, that I was born without my legs.
``It's great because it's kind of an ice breaker.
``Regarding fashion and style, there are so many people who are disabled who kind of put themselves in the corner. When you look your best, people treat you that way.
``I wrestled in high school. When I'm not with the prostheses, I'm really mobile and agile. I use a skateboard to get around, to the gym. It's never held me back. When I was single, I never had a problem dating, living my life, being successful.
``My business is very competitive. I'm trying to meet the top firms, attorneys. You kind of want to differentiate yourself.''
``On the pants, because of the way my prostheses fit, I have to be aware of whether they're loose enough to look natural.''
