Vanda TMA has classic looks, easy maintenance
By GEORGIA TASKER

Name:Vanda TMA.
Description: This is an early hybrid between Vanda sanderiana and V. Josephine van Brero. Its classic flowers have apricot shades in its petals and sepals and a large rose lip. The leaves are one-quarter, which means they form a slightly closed V to protect the leaf interior from sun exposure.
Its parent, Vanda Josephine van Brero, registered in 1936, was often used in Singapore in the 1950s to create hybrids (the first offspring was registered in 1952) for the cut flower industry. Vanda sanderiana gives this flower its rounder shape than JVB, with less flexing of the petals.
Light: Full sun in winter, partial in summer.
Culture: By growing this orchid against a palm trunk in partial sun, I have found it does not require high maintenance that vandas in baskets often seem to demand. I water it when I remember to do so, and the same goes for fertilizer. I use a rock mulch around this area of the garden.
Vandas that I grow in rocks like to sink roots into them, where conditions stay moist below the surface.
