Learning art of grafting

Q: When is the best time to graft mangoes? Please note that I have no grafting experience!
M.T., Homestead
A: Grafting is a skill that is best taught hands-on. Look for a workshop that is offered in the county so that you can have a live demonstration. Also, check out books from your local library, especially books with photos and drawings of grafting. This UF fact sheet shows several different techniques: http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/EP031.
Grafting mangoes can be done anytime of the year but the easiest time is spring through summer.
