It’s 5:30 a.m. and Carina Radonich Tomat blinks her eyes open. She heads straight to the sleek kitchen in her impeccably appointed condo in Hollywood’s exclusive Harbor Island. Though she’s lived there for five years, the kitchen was just remodeled, or “reinvented,” as she says, into a space that’s more conducive to family bonding. The unique and functional design features a spacious cooking station, a comfortable seating area and thoughtful lighting. It’s where she and her husband, Ariel, greet their two children, ages 9 and 11, every morning at 6:30 sharp for a mandatory hour of breakfast. “It’s a great time to talk,” says the Argentina native. But her Latin tradition, she explains, comes with a very American twist: “We make eggs and pancakes from scratch with fresh strawberries.” After breakfast, Tomat and her husband head off to work (they own Finish My Condo, a highly regarded general contracting company) and their kids go to school. The four meet back in the kitchen at 7 p.m. for a mandatory family dinner. “The kitchen is the most important room in the home because it unifies the parents with their children. You can create wonderful conversations for the family,” she said. Tomat had the countertop extended by 10 feet in order to allow space for her kids to do their homework while she’s cooking. It’s all white quartz, a highly durable material ideal for maintaining a chic look in the midst of a lot of action. Tomat’s Argentinian side shines during dinnertime when she seasons and grills proteins—most often steak and chicken. She points out the importance of adding vegetables to the mix, but on the weekends, it’s all about her special recipe for gnocchi. She and her daughter dote on the pasta and its fresh tomato basil sauce for hours. “It’s time well-spent,” she said.
